Ortho Temporary Anchor Devices

Temporary orthodontic anchors are a significant innovation in orthodontics. Mini titanium screws are placed in the mouth for anchorage. An oral surgeon will place the anchors into the bone, between the roots of the teeth. A local anesthetic is usually all that is needed during placement. Once the bone and tissue has healed, we can use the anchors to help move the teeth faster and more efficiently. Normal hygiene maintenance is all that is required. When we are finished moving the teeth, the anchors will be removed.

Ortho anchor plates are another common form of anchorage. Instead of anchor screws being placed, a small plate is inserted. Typically, anchor plates are used in more complex situations and require general anesthetic (sedation).
